recipes from home

Recipes from home is a cookbook that tells stories about the Asian American experience from different Asian American chefs and food content creators. Each section includes a story from the person as well as five recipes from them. The goal of this project was to promote solidarity among Asian Americans, help people understand what being Asian in America is like, and share recipes for people interested to try. All centered around the idea of food bringing all kinds of people together.

The style is a scrapbook or journal style that combines a worn and warm color palette with Asian style patterns and illustrations. The color palette was chosen for the sense of comfort and nostalgic age is gives and the dark red color was included because of the symbolic importance red has in many Asian countries. The ink illustrations were included as a nod to traditional ink paintings in China and the patterned papers use traditional Japanese patterns. Lastly, handwritten notes and a hand-lettered font were used for a personal touch.
